Mindfulness for Cancer Survivors

We don’t have to tell you this, but CANCER IS STRESSFUL! And nobody understands better than others who have been there too.

That’s why we have created time and space especially for cancer survivors/thrivers. Caregivers are also welcome (we know how hard you’ve been working too).

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) has been shown in several studies to reduce and alleviate many of the stress symptoms of being diagnosed with cancer, undergoing treatment for cancer, and the emotional after-effects.

MBSR does not change our life circumstances, but it can help us learn emotional self-care, the ability to accept our “new normal” more easily.

If you’ve been experiencing anxiety, fear, stress, insomnia, worry, depression and fatigue, this may be the place for you. Support, friendship, positive regard, and feeling heard are some of the many positive side effects of being in an MBSR 8-week course.

Practices, exercises and discussions will be geared specifically to the particular issues that cancer survivors experience.

This course will be held at Damselfly YogaSpa in Arvada, 12500 W 58th Ave, #102.

Sundays, January 13th 2019 through March 3rd 2019, from 2pm to 4:30pm.

And Saturday, February 23rd 2019 from 12:15pm to 6:30pm

You may register on Damselfly’s website, https://www.damselflyyogaspa.com/workshops, or here on this website.

Qi Gong Mindful Movement

Qi Gong (pronounced “Chee Gung” is a meditation in motion that originated in China. It’s flowing, graceful and methodical movements promote balance, coordination, breath awareness, and body-mind connection.

After a brief introduction, we will explore how to sense “qi” in the body, and play with different foundation movements. Then we will progress to a simple 8-10 movement series, that will be easy to apply as a home practice.

No experience is necessary. The movements are easy and repetitive. No need to get down on the floor, as movements are done standing or sitting in a chair. Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended.

As an Oriental Medicine practitioner, Lisa Lowe has studied and taught various forms of Qi Gong and mindful movement. This particular class will be a modification of the “18-style” form.
